iPhone 5 will not be announced at WWDC 2011

Apple will start its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) with several important software releases:

  • iCloud
  • Mac OS X Lion
  • iOS 5
Apple announced earlier that the focus of this year’s WWDC will be software. This means that the next
generation iPhone will not be announced at the event.

Apple could be delaying the release of its unannounced generation iPhone from its typical summer debut to sometime in the fall. For the last four years, Apple has released a new version of the iPhone in June or July. And for the last three years, Apple has unveiled the phone at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), held sometime in June each year.

By delaying the iPhone 5's launch, Apple can focus on giving Mac OS X Lion a more prominent role at this year’s WWDC.
